Are you an independent insurance agent or broker? Have you been paying a low monthly fee for an easy to build, no hassles, out of the box (same as every other insurance Web site) Web site?

Does your traffic convert into sales?  Did you just think to yourself... "What Traffic?"  It's time to get your precious business off of that turnkey or white box Web site. Think about this, the major players in the insurance business such as Geico, Progressive, State Farm, Nationwide and Esurance invest millions into the development of their Web sites. Do you think they only wanted to present a way for potential customers to get quotes?  Why would they spend so much on their insurance business sites?  Because they know that the way their web site presents itself is an extension of the company and its image.

Turnkey Solutions; The reality is that a turnkey Web sites should only be considered as a way for agents to say "Yes, I have a website". That's really about all a turnkey solution can be expected to provide. Very few of them promote well enough to drive any serious traffic and look exactly like the thousands of other insurance web sites being hosted on the same servers. The fact that many of the pages carry identical content can have negative affects when it comes to search engine marketing. It's pretty tough to be seen let alone stand out from the others when you do exactly the same thing they're doing. It isn't rocket science to see that there are a few problems using turnkey solutions.

Here are some facts that you should know about the online insurance business:

  1. It is estimated that less than 40% of independent insurance agents and brokers have an online presence. Progressive estimates that about half of its independent agents lack an Internet presence.
  2. 73% of drivers shop online for auto insurance with 67% of those going on to close the deal with an agent.
  3. An extremely large percentage of independent insurance agents and brokers lack the internet savy and search marketing expertise to take full advantage of the lead streams that the Internet provides. Jeffrey Stibel, president of Web.com, said insurance agents are still in "the early innings" of setting up Web sites. He said individual agents have an opportunity to win business from online shoppers. Most of those insurance shoppers don't go to Web sites operated by insurance companies to buy, he said. "What most of them do is go to Google" -end.
  4. The top insurance related search terms in Google are "cheap auto insurance" and "cheap health insurance"  In order to compete your web site will have to be built around the keyword terms that you are targeting.
  5. White box and turn key Web sites are designed to be cheap, quick and easy. The problem with the quick and easy approach is that it is rarely an effective vehicle for search marketing and rarely converts traffic into sales. This decreases your chance of success by increasing your bounce rates and lowering ROI. If your website isn't designed to properly promote your business and your traffic is lost, then "cheap" no longer applies.
  6. Image is everything and how you represent your business online IS your image.

You do not want your Web site to look just like every other insurance Web site.  Let's face one fact, you already fight for business in one of the most competitive arenas in the world. Why would you tie your hands by making yourself look exactly like the other guy?

While those low $29 to $199 per month price tags for out of the box Web sites are attractive, you could end up spending thousands of dollars in monthly fee's and lost business just to find out that it won't work. You may already be there, if you've already done the "Cheap, Quick and Easy" route. It really should be called the "Quick and Easily cost me a fortune in lost business plan".

Please visit one of Our Recent Projects Here. Feel free to jump through all of the pages and you'll notice how it has been designed for easy navigation and redundancy.  This is a live, fully fuctioning and marketed insurance business Web site.

About this project;
Our client (TAIO Insurance Solutions Inc) came to us with the specific need to get off of their turnkey insurance Web site. Their site was running on a cookie cutter platform and they were being charged a monthly fee for hosting. After several discussions we agreed that starting from a blank slate including a new domain name would be the best path to acheiving their goals. We found and negotiated for a new domain name and our designers began creating everything on the Web site from scratch. From the company logo to the icons, banners, the scripts, forms and unique content, the entire Web site is one-of-a-kind. We also managed to procure a private server running static IPs for less than the monthly turnkey site fees. We've 301 redirected their old url (taioinsurance.com) to this new address and we are in the process of setting up their own in house affiliate program. While we won't disclose the exact cost to our clients, we will confirm that it's far less than many of the designers are charging for inferior results and about 1/3rd what some would charge for the same level of service.

Update: In the first 4 months TAIO has writtem more than 100 policies from hundreds of quote requests. This is a result of an aggressive PPC campaign with organics starting to pull in traffic. Their original website was online almost 2 years with few inquiries and not a single sale. We calculate that they should be writting about 100 policies per month within 2 years. 100 policies per month x 2 years = $1.6m Book Value.  Is your Insurance web site working this hard for you?
